Nougats of Montélimar

Fame has made these two words inseparable since the third quarter of the seventeenth century, when began to produce the first almond trees introduced a few years earlier in the area by Olivier de Serre …

Almonds mixed with honey from Provence were substituted walnut cake “nux gatum” or “nougo” previously known in Oc-speaking countries, and probably introduced by the Greeks to Marseille.This transformation became and remained the preserve and the specialty of Montélimar.

Montélimar is specialized in the production of delicious product by adopting a new formula in which replaced the almond nuts.

The first marks the manufacture of nougat, outside the area clean pastry chefs, appeared in the nineteenth century. Today there is 12 nougat factory in Montélimar.

The nougat of Montélimar, Provençal delicacy with excellence, is one of thirteen traditional desserts offered at the Dinner on Christmas night.
